Lady Gaga
Raised on a musical diet of Michael Jackson, Cyndi Lauper, the Rolling Stones and the Beatles, Lady Gaga brings a sense of theatrical fashion and attitude to her dance-inspired, electro-rock performances. Named after Queen's "Radio Gaga," the pop fashionista took the fast lane to success, starting at age four when she learned to play piano by ear. At 14, she began performing at open-mic nights in and around New York City's Lower East Side. After graduating from Convent of the Sacred Heart school (the elite private institution Paris Hilton attended), Gaga earned a coveted spot at the famed Tisch School of the Arts. Soon after, she started writing songs for the Pussycat Dolls, and at age 20, she was signed to Interscope Records. Starting with her 2008 debut, The Fame, she became one of pop culture's most ubiquitous figures, with songs from "Just Dance" to "Born This Way" dominating the pop charts and her public antics (Kermit dresses! Birds flown! Gender identity rumors!) dominating pop culture.

Showgirl
Kylie Minogue
Year: 2005
Runtime: 1 hr 49 min
On the one hand, pop musically speaking, worldbeaters such as Kylie Minogue are few and far between. Singers and performers of her stature and popularity rarely maintain their power for as long as she was able to. Her streaks of number one singles in both Australia and the U.K. are nearly insurmountable. And yet, on the other hand, her inability to really crack open the American pop market over the course of her career is a story that is heard all too often from groups hailing from nations as pop powerful as Australia and the U.K. Eventually, with the hugely successful "Can't Get You Out of My Head," Kylie would rattle the American pop psyche, reminding the rather insular scene that the bubbly girl who had first made waves with the 1987 cover of "The Loco Motion" had developed into a stylish, experienced, and able pop performer with a clear agenda — both musically and visually — and the chops to match. To focus on Minogue's American problem would only be looking at a small fraction of the larger story. -

Live at Wembley
Beyoncé
Year: 2004
Runtime: 2 hr 14 min
Beyonce's London fans go crazy when the Destiny's Child beauty, on her first solo international tour, descends to a massive stage while suspended, upside down, from a wire. After a delicate landing, the star embarks on a set of recent hits immersed in complicated arrangements, including the Arabic sound of "Baby Boy" and "Naughty Girl," the chunky, hypnotic funk of "Hip Hop Star," and Beyonce: Live at Wembley's best performance, the powerful "Work It Out," in which the diva is at her clearest, jazziest, and most soulful. Not everything works. The bottom falls out of "Gift from Virgo," "Be with You" is forgettable, and Beyonce's stage patter needs polish. But a Destiny's Child medley accompanied by only a DJ is innovative and fun, "Summertime" proves a breezy dance number, and "Crazy in Love" is bolstered by what sounds like the old Stax horns.
