    Runtime: 1 hr 55 min

We got the opportunity to attend one of the most anticipated metal gigs of the year so far. The lights went down and the mighty Opeth entered the stage with the crowd roaring for them. Opeth blew the roof off the Enmore in Sydney, playing as amazingly as they always do. After they were all plugged in they began playing one of their hit songs. Effortlessly the members of Opeth themselves were getting lost in the music and drawing you in with them into a tranced atmospheric dimension as lead vocalist and guitarist Mikael Åkerfeldt’s voice carried through the venue.

  • Live at Hype Machine's Hype Hotel

    Ra Ra Riot

    Year: 2013

    Runtime: 29 min

Earlier this year, when Ra Ra Riot unleashed their third full-length record, Beta Love, we must admit that we were somewhat apprehensive about their sudden synth pop indulgence. To make such a polarized transition away from their intimate orchestral tunes was surely a shock that many longtime fans were forced to gradually grasp. But we, as have Ra Ra Riot's faithful, have come to appreciate this new, effervescent feel, and all it required was a live Beta Love experience.

We caught Ra Ra Riot's brilliant spectacle down in Austin, Texas during Conflict of Interest's night at Hype Machine's Hype Hotel, and Beta Love skeptics beware, as our video of their entire performance can (and will) make a fan out of the most cynical synth adversary.

  • A Dance Drama

    Nureyev

    Year: 2010

    Runtime: 47 min

Nureyev is a unique dance drama created especially for television exploring the life of the great Russian dancer, Rudolph Nureyev, who defected to the West at the height of the Cold War in 1961. Integrating original choreography created for the screen and dramatic monologues, the film presents a multi-faceted dramatic portrait of one of the seminal performing arts figures of our time. There are the images of the young boy, born in poverty in Russia's Ural region; the late but promising start at the Kirov ballet school; the highly publicized defection to the west at a Paris airport in 1961; the celebrated partnership with the Royal Ballet's Margot Fonteyn; and finally succumbing to death brought on by the HIV virus at the age of 54 in 1993. Along the way, he changed the way the male dancer was presented on stage, transforming him from a prop to an equal performing partner, though with a fury, energy and sexuality never before seen.

    Year: 2010

Two Door Cinema club exhibit the same knack for chance that propelled them to the stage in the very beginning, experimenting ever so slightly by trimming the intense rhythms, dashing tempos, and inventive flourishes of "Undercover Martyn", "Cigarettes In The Theatre", and "Something Good Can Work" down into acoustic roots. The result is a set of songs that places emphasis on the melodies, harmonies, and story lines that drive at the heart of what this trio does. Call it another chance that, to no one's surprise, pays off in the form of this candid Guest Apartment style session with Two Door Cinema Club.
