Icelandic chamber pop group Of Monsters and Men broke onto the international music scene in 2011, just a year after winning their country's nationwide battle-of-the-band competition Musiktilraunir. Hailed as "the new Arcade Fire" in Rolling Stone magazine, the band's original lineup comprised singer/guitarists Nanna Bryndís Hilmarsdóttir and Ragnar Þórhallsson, guitarist Brynjar Leifsson, keyboardist Árni Guðjónsson, bass player Kristján Páll Kristjánsson, and drummer Arnar Rósenkranz Hilmarsson. Their debut album, My Head Is an Animal, was released in Iceland by Record Records in the fall of 2011. Its infectious first single, "Little Talks," saw worldwide success, and the band signed with Universal Music Group.
While performing at At V Festival 2013 the band played the most beloved hit singles as Little Talks, King and Lionheart, Yellow Light and many more.Added to My Q

The Fame Riot is clearly one of the best bands to emerge from the Seattle scene. Beyond the look & the youthful swagger, they provide great music and great entertainment. In a 2013 Sound Off interview, Shazzam Watkins and Liz Scarlett described their music as “a soup that never stops cooking but you can try it any time you like.” Their quest to create infectiously danceable, yet credible glam pop-rock is a dream fulfilled, because at this fortuitous age they have the talent to go out on a limb with their dandy style and driving music.Added to My Q

Live at Music Hall of Williamsburg
Year: 2010
Runtime: 57 min
The atmosphere at Music Hall Of Williamsburg was thick; like a down blanket, or a warm piece of cake, or any number of your favorite comfortable things. That could probably be attributed to the lush harmonies and textures of Mumford and Sons, a group of musicians (and not a family owned apothecary) who knocked several out of the park during this sold-out show earlier this Spring. From the schizophrenic instrument swaps to the bass-drum heavy foot-stomping tunes, Mumford and Sons produce a slice of music that is both wonderful and intrinsically dashing...and our cameras were there to prove it.Added to My Q

One wouldn't expect to find a cabin on Wall Street, but lo and behold, that's exactly where we were able to catch up with the English duo, Alberta Cross in our latest session. It's a freaky sort of space, a place where bare, industrial stairways suddenly lead to a surprising, rooftop abode that really hammers home a serene, upstate vibe. Right there on Wall Streetkind of an appropriate setting for a band that dabbles in creating serene and rustic (OK, their recent album Songs of Patience also rocks) tunes from their newfound hometown, NYC.Added to My Q

Band In Seattle: Season 3 Episode 10
Year: 2017
Runtime: 23 min
There’s a song that Evening Bell plays, called “Dust Storm,” which says way more about their music than anything else. When one hears Evening Bell, it’s hard not to picture a tumble weed skimming around a desert somewhere in Tucson circa whenever John Wayne was a movie star. It’s vintage Americana at its finest, but with a dark and psychedelic twist – music fit for a ghost town overtaken by Saguaro cacti, and perhaps cows.Added to My Q

Wild Powwers has more oomph than Ws in their name. Jordan Gomes is a beast on bass, Lupe Flores is the human embodiment of a kick drum, and Lara Hilgeman manages to channel riot girl and soul diva at the same time. It’s dark and heavy and dirty and magical. The three of them bring in all kinds of influences, but it all still manages to sound like the same band in every song, somehow. This trio – no, trifecta – has the prolific songwriting chops and hardworking road mentality that it takes to make it as a band. They’ve got a unique sound, great attitudes, and songs that get lodged in the deepest, darkest bits of your brain.Added to My Q

These twin sisters are an engaging live act and have slowly amassed a sizable following over the past decade and a half. They’ve done it by writing smart, quirky folk-pop tunes that are as emotionally true as they are catchy. Tegan and Sara’s studio albums have given them the luxury of adding accompaniment, but their live performances have been stripped to acoustic guitars, keyboards, and their intuitive vocals. The show recorded here was performed for family and friends at a Vancouver studio, so the sound is excellent and well-controlled. “Relief Next to Me” is nicely detailed. “The Ocean” could be a beatnik’s dream. “I Hear Noises” is exquisite folk, beautifully restrained. “Call It Off” is touching and gentle. “I Won’t Be Left” furiously strums with intention, with the bonus of drums accentuating the new wave pop drive. Their entire catalog is raided to great effect; just hearing the ache in Tegan’s voice should be enough to convince a skeptic.Added to My Q
